Default Tax Configuration
You will set a default taxability to be applied to new customers by going to Company --> Settings and selecting either Taxable or Nontaxable from the dropdown under the Pricing/Finance header.
If the majority of your customers will be taxed using the same tax rate, you can also set a Default Tax Zone to be applied when you create new customers or new addresses within existing customer accounts. This can be left blank or not configured if there is not a majority Tax Zone that you would wish to be applied.
If there is no Tax Zone created, you will see the following error message:
Please click the link in the message to set up your Tax Zones or click Company --> Tax Setup in the left-hand menu bar.
Tax Setup
Tax Zones
You will set up Tax Zones to allow for a tax percentage to be applied to your quotes and invoices in Sera.
In this chart, you will be able to see your active Tax Zones that are available to be applied to addresses within your account. To see archived Tax Zones, please click the All toggle at the top of the chart.
To add a new Tax Zone, we will ask for a Name, an optional description and the Tax Rate.
You can title this Tax Zone whatever you like, but be aware this will display on quotes and invoices to your customers.
Note: If you charge multiple rates in your area on the same quote, i.e. city, county and state, please combine all separate rates into one group rate as you will be allowed a single rate per quote in Sera. For example: You charge 1% city tax, 2% county tax, and 3% state tax, your tax zone would be 6% tax in Sera.
Tax Exemption Reasons
Within a customer's tax settings, you have the ability to mark a customer as Tax Exempt. We will pre-populate the common list of Tax Exemption Reasons within this chart, and you are able to add, edit, or remove items from this list at any point.
